Story Time on the Ipad
Well, I get it.
At a recent brown bag lunch Saul Hansell and John Borthwick talked about the intimacy of the device. I’ve spent about 3 hours on it now and it’s obviously a much better gaming experience than the iphone, but not as a great a movie experience as a plasma screen tv. In general, I find the size of the screen either improves or weakens the user experience when the application is a merely a reinterpretation of other media be they console gaming, television, or websites.
However, when books are reinterpreted even a bit as is the case with Alice in Wonderland (the pictures are animated a bit) there is a compelling new experience and it is intimate.
For me, the ubiquity of tablets (schools, restaurants, companies) is a certainly. I think the Ipad/tablets will be a laptop killer over time . It’s just nice to have something smaller. However, I’m typing this post on my laptop because I just don’t feel like working through it on whatever tumblr app there is.
So I’m not sure what happens to writing. But look here’s the bottom line: Everybody in my family wants one and I kind of think that makes sense. To me, that’s impressive for Apple and even with their Darth Vaderesque closed ecosystem, you have to blown away by how good the products are. Wow.
