Facebook’s Groundbreaking Movie Deal

For two years, I’ve been thinking about movie related startups.  I began by asking why the movie industry was seeing so much less innovation than the music and television industry.  With AnyClip, I spent a great deal of time trying to learn the ways of Hollywood and meshing the cultures of our respective industries.  AnyClip still fights the good fight trying to license movie content.  Sean Parker warned me at TechCrunch 50 18 months ago that these licenses would be years in the making and so far he’s proved prescient.  I parted ways with AnyClip last August for several reasons.  I’ve been teaching the Rise of Internet Media at NYU and consulting for the past few months.

But now, I’m  creating a new company in the movie space and Facebook has news today that makes this opportunity far more possible.  Facebook has billions of revenues at stake in restructuring the distribution of the entertainment industry.  Many companies can help them and participate in that disruption.  Today, exhibitors, netflix, amazon, itunes, Cable companies, and a variety of others hear a shot across the bow.  The game in very much on.  Urgency is upon us.
